About

nobody in the art world takes on the art in her world armed with nothing but her immense intelligence, pithy wit and ability to make outrageous claims without blinking an eye.

Having been told recently that I am a 'nobody' in the art world, I have created this blog as an expression of my desire to change this.

Please feel free to browse/comment on posts but be mindful that non-constructive comments are not appreciated by anyone. I do not claim any ownership of artwork images posted on the site. All images are copyright of their respective owners and images are for demonstrative purposes only.

Go see this

I was driving through the valley the other night on my way to the Powerhouse (you know how I love the Powerhouse…) when my eye was caught by a painting in the window of Jan Murphy Galleries (don’t worry, I wasn’t behind the wheel).

It was this gorgeous creature here, by Richard Dunlop.

(Jan Murphy Galleries are terribly clever and like to make it impossible for me to copy their images. I’m very sorry, but also very impressed that Jan Murphy is so good at protecting their images. I tried everything.)

The Richard Dunlop exhibition is on at Jan Murphy Galleries until 1 May, and you can see the rest of the works that will be showing by clicking here

Luckily, I am able to show you some of his other works…

Richard Dunlop | Coastal Garden

Richard Dunlop | Buon Ricordo (Crocodile’s Head)

Richard Dunlop | Age of Exploration

Richard Dunlop | Japanese Garden II

These works are so beautiful.

Dunlop is an Australian artist, based in Brisbane. His paintings remind me a little bit of William Robinson, who is one of my favourite living Australian artists. You would probably know his work as it is rather prolific. This is probably a good example.

Dunlop’s work differs from Robinson’s, however, being more rich in colour, and abstract in nature. Also, is anybody else getting a bit of a Cezanne reference in his Buon Ricordo work (above)?

I’m intending to get along to the Jan Murphy exhibition before it closes, and I think you should too.

Also, London readers are in luck because Dunlop has a forthcoming exhibition at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery.
