About

nobody in the art world takes on the art in her world armed with nothing but her immense intelligence, pithy wit and ability to make outrageous claims without blinking an eye.

Having been told recently that I am a 'nobody' in the art world, I have created this blog as an expression of my desire to change this.

Please feel free to browse/comment on posts but be mindful that non-constructive comments are not appreciated by anyone. I do not claim any ownership of artwork images posted on the site. All images are copyright of their respective owners and images are for demonstrative purposes only.

Go see this

All this talk of oversized sculptures reminded me of something I saw at GoMA the other week.  You really have to go see it, it’s upstairs, and it is simply wondrous.

Ron Mueck, England. In Bed 2005. Collection: Queensland Art Gallery

Photo courtesy of Queensland Art Gallery

I’d seen a work of Mueck’s before, at the National Gallery in Canberra. This one was of a woman in her full term of pregnancy, she was standing, and she was nude. I had walked into the gallery and been shocked not only by the gigantically-proportioned human I was faced with, but also because Pregnant Woman was familiar to me, having watched a documentary on its making in grade 11 art.

Mueck’s sculptures are truly amazing for their lifelike quality, and when you see his works in real life it is clear why he is referred to as a hyper-realist.

Really. Cool.
